VoIP Over Phone Wiring

I have yet to try out a VoIP service such as Vonage for my calling since I am doing just fine with my cellphone and Skype. However, if I ever decide to venture down that route in the future it is reassuring to know that I could simply setup a VoIP system over my existing landlines.

Jake Ludington has gone over, in agonizing detail, the steps needed to setup such a system and although there are quite a few, the process seems pretty simple.

Invisible Shield For iPod Nano

Yesterday I wrote about the A-1 Quality Products Nano iKeychain Case and lamented about the fact that it still doesn’t protect the screen from getting scratched up. invisibleSHIELD is offering a case that is a full body protector.

When they say invisible they really do mean it. Looking at the pictures and demo videos you can’t even tell that there is a case on the iPod. The reason is because the invisibleSHIELD isn’t a case at all, but a material that resembles cellophane. Doesn’t sound very enticing I know, but after you check out the demo videos you might be a little more convinced.

Good Vibrations Are Reducing Accidents

The Citroen C4 is the first car to offer vibrating panels to warn the driver of a hazard. The optional system detects when the car is wandering across lanes and vibrates the side of the driver’s that matches thedirection of drift. This alerts the driver to the lack of control, but without the sudden burst of noise of a conventional warning that could cause the driver to overreact and steer suddenly in the other direction.

A-1 Quality Products Nano iKeychain Case Review

iLounge has posted a review of the A-1 Quality Products Nano iKeychain Case.

There have been a lot of rumblings in the Apple community about how easily the iPod Nano’s screen gets scratched so I am surprised that iLounge rewarded this case with an 8 even though it doesn’t offer any protection to the screen. It’s a very stylish case and the keychain aspect of it makes it very chic, but if I can’t read the screen due to it being scratched up then the case serves me no purpose.

The Ion-Kids Tracking System

Have you ever been to a Theme Park and saw a childleash? On the outside I laugh at the misfortune of the child, but on the inside I cry because the parents aren’t using suitable materials for the leash. Nothing prevents a kid from running away like a good steel chain. One of those large ones that Mr. T used to wear around his neck or the kind that John Cena wears now. However, if chains aren’t your thing you should probably checkout this tracking system done by Ion Kids.

My favorite quote from the site would definitely have to be from C & J Bowser (where’s Mario?):

The Finger Guard

The Finger Guard is something that I will never use simply because the only thing you will see me cooking is a nice grilled-cheese sandwich, and even then I might just put the toast in the toaster and then melt the sandwich in the microwave. Nonetheless, it doesn’t take away from the significance of how cool this is and how commonsensical (so what? I just made up a word) it is to buy.

Now excuse me while I go and prepare my grilled cheese sandwich without the threat of cutting off my fingers.

Griffin Ships iFM For iPod

You want to know one of the major reasons why the iPod will continue to own the mp3 market? It’s all about the accessories that you can buy for it. You don’t see companies lining up to create any accessories for Creative’s products. The more toys you can add to your toy the more popular it will become. Sort of like Windows and that whole “all my apps run on it” type of thing.

Griffin Technology Inc. on Friday announced it is shipping the iFM for iPod, an FM receiver, remote control and audio recorder for the iPod. The iFM costs US$49.99.

PS3 FAQ

Our good friends at PS3Blog are starting to put together a PS3 FAQ answering all of your questions and concerns.

Some of the questions I have for them are:

  • I know that the PS3 will utilize wireless controllers, but how many controllers can be used at once? One of the limiting factors for the PS1 and PS2 was always that it came standard with just two controller ability rendering party games useless unless you bought the four controller adapter.
  • Will it be available in multiple colors?

iRiver U10 Review at HiFi Blog

9rules Member Konstantinos Christidis has posted a review of the iRiver U10 Portable Media Player.

Overall, this is a great and (relatively) powerful device but what kills it is the high price tag. 1GB costs $249, this is what a 4GB Nano costs (never mind the fact that it doesn’t play videos). Maybe they should start working on a micro-HDD based device? I could see myself paying the same amount for 4 gigs of storage, even if it meant slightly larger dimensions and a possibly smaller battery life (28 hours are high enough so that a small reduction wouldn’t hurt anyone); both of which are to be expected when going from Flash memory chips to hard drives.

Apple Steals iPod Mini From 1954

Okay, they probably didn’t, but it’s interesting to see the resemblance between a 1954 Regency TR-1 transistor radio and the now defunct iPod Mini. BBC has the story on how John Ousby discovered the resmeblance and proceeded to post the photos on Flickr. Everything down to the size, color and unique wheel are the same and it has led many to believe that Jonathan Ive may have gotten his inspiration from an invention created of a half-century ago.

Arstechnica goes on about another theory involving cryptomnesia.
