The guys over at I Like Cameras have put together an nice introduction entry on the new Canon EOS 5D Digital Camera.

Product highlights include:
Although I am by no means in the prosumer class with regards to digital cameras I can definitely say that I will be looking to purchase this bad boy during the upcoming holiday season.
Be sure to checkout the full introduction over at ILC.

Well it happened to very little surprise, but Apple has officially announced the iPod with Video. It’s the same height and width as the current 4th gen iPods, but just a tad bit thinner which makes sense considering the shrinking density of mini-harddrives. The screen has a 320×240 pixel resolution, 2.5-inches in size and 260k color display. The new iPod offers over 20 hours of battery life and supports playback of H.264 and MPEG4 formats at 30fps.
It will come out in two versions: 30GB and 60GB. Prices are $299 for the 30GB and $399 for the 60GB version which holds 150 hours of video. They are planning to ship both in one week (*cough*).
Toshiba presented an attendant robot ‘ApriAlpha V3’ for elderly people in Toshiba’s 130th anniversary exhibition. ‘ApriAlpha V3’ can perceive and identify sounds from every direction by using 6 mikes built inside. It also employs TOSHIBA’s exclusive ‘Voice Signal Processing’, so the robot can respond to greeting of a person and answer a question of another person right away. Its visual sensor and high speed image processing help to identify color and textures of the clothes that people wear. If he meets a person wearing particular clothes that he already has information, he starts to follow him and stops when he reaches the person. When he misses the person, he examines the information again.

Yesterday Palm launched its new business-oriented PDA, the Palm TX. It replaces the Tungsten T5, which from what I understand wasn’t doing too hot, with WLAN capabilities, but with only half the memory (128MB). Doesn’t make much sense, even if they are trying to lower the price. RAM can’t be that expensive in that size.
Overall nothing spectacular, another mediocre product launch by a company to keel over very, very soon.

The new ZVUE features on-board flash memory, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and will be compatible with Windows Media Video (WMV) and Windows Media Audio (WMA) DRM. The next generation ZVUE will also support SD/MMC flash memory cards in addition to the built-in storage.
Okay let’s go over what is completely wrong with this thing.

Asteco Korea has announced the “DigiMemo A501″ s a portable digital note pad which digitalizes the contents written or drawn on a regular paper (Size 215mm x 155mm; up to A5 size) by using the Electromagnetic technology, and then stores them in the storage device. Unlike other digital notepads you dont have to write on a LCD but on regular paper. You can save the contents on the internal flash memory in real time. The onboard software allows the user to save it as an Ebook to be send easily via Email. The Digimemo has *MB Flash memory which can store 40 pages of A5 size, memory can be expanded via the CF card slot. It connects to the host via USB. The Diginote is the size of an A4 paper, weighs around 550 grams and is powered by 4 AAA batteries.
I have never heard of Elecom Japan, which isn’t that suprising seeing how in the US all you really hear about is the mp3 players from Apple, Creative and iRiver. However, I will make sure to pay them a little bit more attention since they seem to be taking Apple’s cue by releasing products with a bit of style, although awkward looking in their implementation.

The PLP-P01 supports PLEO (PC Less Easy Operation). Files can be transferred onto a SD card using the PLC-2 wire which rips tracks from audio CDs and stores them on the SD card. It offers a 128×64 pixel monochrome display and can do 16 hours of continuous playback on a single charge.

Having a watch with built-in USB capabilities and memory is nothing new, so this watch by Doratch doesn’t impress me all that much. Even worse is the fact that it doesn’t even look cool. If you are going to wear a watch, I don’t care what cool things it does, it needs to be stylish.
It’s compatible with all the popular OSes out today, but password protection can only be used with Windows. The watch costs $190 so not only do you get a basic USB drive, but you also get an ugly fashion accessory to go along with it. Where can I sign up?
The EverLife Flashlight uses no batteries or bulbs. Instead it uses your energy and induction to produce a bright light using efficient LED technology. Just shake the light for about 30 seconds and the EverLife Flashlight will provide about 5 minutes of light. During prolonged use it can be shaken for 10-15 seconds every 2 or 3 minutes giving you an unlimited supply of light.
The EverLife Flashlight requires no maintenance. You can leave it in your car, home, boat or RV for a long time and it will still be ready to produce light when you need it. The bright LED will last for thousands of hours and provide a lifetime of service.

Just watch the demo videos of the TactaPad in action and you will see how cool it is, yet how ineffective it is in an environment that requires keyboard typing. I don’t know the benefits it offers over using a mouse (maybe prevents carpal tunnel), but overall it is a very cool concept.
As mentioned at Mavromatic it does give you that Minority Report feel.Interestingly enough, the product isn’t for sale so I can only assume the compan is looking to license the technology. Let’s see if anyone decides to jump on that offer.
