The folks at LG Philips seem to be right on track with their new LED-backlit LCD. They were caught showing it off again just months before its scheduled release. The TV packs a serious punch thanks to its 1080p resolution, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 105% color gamut. Philips also showed off 5 other LED-based displays ranging in size from 7 to 26 inches. There’s no word on pricing, but at this rate, we should find out sooner than later.
Apple(R) Inc. and The Beatles’ company Apple Corps Ltd. are pleased to announce the parties have entered into a new agreement concerning the use of the name “Apple” and apple logos which replaces their 1991 Agreement. Under this new agreement, Apple Inc. will own all of the trademarks related to “Apple” and will license certain of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for their continued use. In addition, the ongoing trademark lawsuit between the companies will end, with each party bearing its own legal costs, and Apple Inc. will continue using its name and logos on iTunes(R). The terms of settlement are confidential.
Think Secret is re-emphasizing that displays in smaller MacBook Pros and possibly MacBooks will be backlit with LEDs by the second quarter of this year, if not as early as this this quarter. Though the LED-backlit systems are already in development, the question remains as to whether production will begin in time to make a Q1 launch—a Q2 launch looks more likely.
PC World talks of one of the buzziest product intros at the DEMO show in Palm Springs - Seagate’s pocket-sized, Bluetooth-connected hard drive for use with mobile phones. Known as D.A.V.E.–which is short for Digital Audio Video Experience.
D.A.V.E is smaller than a business-card case and you can pair it was a phone via Bluetooth, whereupon it’ll upload a Java applet that lets the phone connect wirelessly to the drive and anything stored on it–music, video, pictures, documents, or whatever. And because it’s all done with Bluetooth, D.A.V.E. can stay in your pocket even while you’re accessing stuff stored on it!
Is Dell looking to take on the DS and PSP in the portable console front? Not likely, but it sounds like they might have found another option.
Dell’s Global Gaming Chief Abizar Vakharia, at a European Innovation event in Marbella, Spain, was quoted as saying “you know, [a future gaming handheld is] definitely one that’s on the radar screen, but we have no plans to talk about anything today.”
