HD-DVD/Blu-ray PC hybrid drive. Hedge your bets.

Hybrid Blu-ray & HD DVD drive for PCs

Hitachi and LG have teamed up to produce an optical PC drive that reads both Blu-ray and HD DVD discs, making it the first in the world to do so. In addition to supporting both new formats, the GGW-H10N can also read and write regular CDs, single layer DVDs and Blu-ray discs. Unfortunately, the GGW-H10N will be sold for approximately $1,200 to OEMs, making the final price tag much higher by the time it reaches the end user. At least home theater PCs can now have a hybrid drive to further lessen any spats that could result from a pseudo “format war”. The ball is in your court, consumers!

Ergonomic Mouse Can’t Reinvent Wheel

Ergo mouseEveryonce in a while someone tries to reinvent the wheel when it comes to a gadget. Some excel, and some fail. This particular product fails at everything it attempts.

This new mouse stands on it’s side, the company says that it is a more natural way for someone to use their hand. I, for one beg to differ. Using my scroll wheel like a trigger isn’t something I need, and dragging the side of my hand doesn’t seem more benficial. I don’t have a clue how this thing helps me. I’d rather need a handcast than ever be caught using this. However, if you like wrist joints in tact, it comes in at $63

Should You Own A Laser Printer?

Laser printerLaser Printers have always been an office staple, since prices were so high. They became such an aid to print lots of copies at a high rate, and less crumple on the paper. However, as the prices drop, should you be in the market for a laser printer? Here is a few questions to ask yourself.

Do I print a large volume of pages? Some people don’t print often, but when they do it’s a large amount of paper. Sitting next to the old inkjet for an hour just isn’t fun. You can’t leave due to paper jams. Lasers also print 2 sided effortlessly, so they look much more professional.

You’ll find that the processor runs video games rather seamlessly and only minor upgrades would get this to a high end model.

Dell’s Home Media Suite Desktop PC

Dell is looking to telecom companies to deliver fiber-optic broadband links in order to spearhead PCs into media hubs. Dell Chairman Michael Dell said in his keynote address - “Customers say they want to use their PCs for digital home entertainment, but it really hasn’t caught on because of two things: Broadband isn’t where it needs to be for reliable performance, and the industry hasn’t made it easy for devices to work together.”

Dell unveiled a Home Media Suite desktop PC that offers vast storage capacity and a 27-inch wide-screen display. The Home Media Suite will launch in the United States this month, as soon as Microsoft releases the Vista OS.

Apple Does A Hat Trick On Amazon.Com

Amazon.com has released its list of top-selling items on their site and Apple takes the top spot in three areas – MP3 players, Notebooks and Desktops! The mp3 player category was a foregone conclusion with iPod being so ever popular everywhere.

Two MacBooks dominate the notebook category, which isn’t that surprising either because they run Windows seamlessly or have the best price-to-performance ratio of any Macs ever built.

The hat trick came in the desktop category for Apple on Amazon where the iMac dominates the first and second spots. Let’s keep n mind that Amazon.com is just one of the retailers that sell Apple products and so the total sales everywhere will be at a different scale altogether.
