iPod Competition, and it’s sexy?

Organum Mp3 player. This super smooth, amazingly sexy MPE player has an end of 2007 release date. The new DAP heavily tagged as “under development” throws down support for MP3, ASF, WMA, WAV, JPG, and BMP files and features a 1.8-inch, 128 x 160 pixel display, built-in microphone, and 2GB of storage. It seems to really try and compete with the high end of Mp3 players. It’ll take more than just a pretty shell to rattle the iPod hold.

All three models support the MP3, WMA, and WAV audio formats and AVI, SMV, and WMV video formats. The VE’s internal memory can be expanded upon by inserting a microSD card, while the ME takes in miniSD cards and the MK takes in SD/MMC memory cards. Since all three are pretty similar in specifications, it really depends on your personal taste on which one suits you best.

The ExeMode CDR-300 Makes CD to SD a FLASH

exemode.jpg

The ExeMode CDR-300 mini stereo system is a cheap boombox from Japanese company KFE with a single redeeming quality: you put in a CD and it turns its cuts into MP3 or WMA files, slamming them down onto an SD card or USB key.

Unfortunately, for some reason the ExeMode can’t handle SD cards that hold over 1GB. That sucks, but perhaps the most remarkable aspect of his box is its price, quoted at $60. We abandoned CDs long ago, but if you haven’t, this might be a convenient way to quickly snag some of those songs on a flash card.

iTunes + Ticketmaster = Free Music and Live Music

Apple LogoYou can soon expect to pick up a free song of your choice from iTunes with every concert ticket you buy at Ticketmaster. No gimmicks, no catches. Buy a concert ticket, get any track you want, gratis.

The other side of the promotion extends a program where last year, for example, pre-orders of Stadium Arcadium from iTunes got RHCP fans early access to tickets. By pre-ordering “select digital albums,” you’ll get a crack at that artist’s tickets before the rest of the non-iTunes-using barbarians do. No word yet on which artists are participating, though…

Zune Filling Stations?

ZuneAccording to Microsoft’s business chief Chris Stephenson, the company is planning on working with retail chains to provide “filling stations” for the Zune. Fast food service stores like McDonalds, Starbucks and other Affiliates will let you download the songs you are listening to right from the store.

Imagine going to your late teens/early twenties clothing store, hearing a great song over the speakers, and being able to immediately download the track to your Zune right there. No need to walk up to the snarky cashier and ask her what the song is. This is just one way Microsoft is trying to make a dent in the Apple mp3 control.

But, Microsoft’s planning along these lines though now the Zune functions mainly as a portable music player, like Apple’s iPod. Zune desperately needs to gain dominance with the huge popularity of the iPod being still intact. The iPod continues to rule as the main music player in the business and recently expanded its functions to include video playback and gaming.
