I have yet to try out a VoIP service such as Vonage for my calling since I am doing just fine with my cellphone and Skype. However, if I ever decide to venture down that route in the future it is reassuring to know that I could simply setup a VoIP system over my existing landlines.
Jake Ludington has gone over, in agonizing detail, the steps needed to setup such a system and although there are quite a few, the process seems pretty simple.
If you are unaware of what VoIP is, it stands for Voiceover Internet Protocol, a technology for transmitting ordinary telephone calls over the Internet using packetlinked routes. Essentially you are able to make calls anywhere for one price avoiding the confusion of keeping track of local and long-distance calls. Great for a lot of the females that I know and not so good for the guys who have to be on the other line listening to them.
