With the amount of digital information homes are storing it is inevitable that alongside every desktop PC will be some sort of massive storage unit. However, any decent solutions only offer a couple hundred gigabytes of storage and those in the terabyte range seem to be pretty expensive. Maxtor sees an opening that needs to be filled and they are looking to do it with their OneTouch III Turbo line of external storage devices.
The device can work in either a RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration and offers up to 1TB of storage capacity. A triple interface (FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0) makes it accessible to all modern PCs.
I have the first generation of Maxtor OneTouch units and it has been really reliable so I wouldn’t hesitate jumping on something like this if I didn’t already have a data server on my personal network. I wasn’t able to find the price tag on this device but I am guessing in the $500-$800 range.
